Solar Upgrade

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Well, a lot has happened since our last post back in 2014. But we’ll catch up on events as we progress. The major upgrade to speak of is our solar setup. We’ve upgraded from our original 4 x 150 watt solar panels to 6 new 390 watt solar panels. And since these panels are much bigger (4′ x 6.5′) than our originals, we needed to build a panel rack that can withstand the 70-80 mph wind gusts we frequently get out here. And as always, we over-constructed them.

We credit Spectrumz Going Solar for the inspiration on the rack. We made some modifications but they turned out better than we had hoped. We still have to wire and connect them, but the major build is over before the ground froze and winter officially settled in. We’ll keep you posted on the junction box/inverter/charger and accessories as we hook them up and get them in place.

It’s been 12 years since we started this adventure, and we’re finally getting around to completing our dome and other building projects. Stay tuned for more to come.
